Do hermit crabs molt? I have 2 hermit crabs(not sure what kind, they have brown legs with red antennea) and saw them both walking around with their shell in my tank and also saw what looked like a 3rd hermit crab w/o shell. The only explanation I can think of is that it molted.

yes, like all crustaceans they do shed thier exoskeleton (shell) in order to grow. they will also occationally shed when they reach full size. be sure to include extra shells in the tank for your hemit crabs to inhabit or they might steal some from you snails if you have them.

He didnt shed his shell though, they both have the same shells. I looks like he shed his legs. Its not moving either, just sits there.
