I realize this isn't a fishing forum, but I thought I'd maybe ask anyways. If this is not appropriate, I apologize in advance - mods, please feel free to close or move the thread.
We're planning an impromptu trip to Belmar (or anywhere close to Jersey city/NYC metro area), no boat fishing (one person gets seasick easily), and we are planning more just to get out of this area and thought we'd try fishing from the piers/coast/shores just for the fun of it (not a huge deal if we don't fish).
You can tell we're not serious - we only have lighter freshwater rods, from what I've read you need heavier rods/lines. Should we even bother bringing these rods?
Any tips for what bait to use, what spots to try, etc.?
