I've had this guy in a growout tank for about 6 months. He has grown from 1 to 4 inches. Notice the blue-teal color in the face and the red tips on the fins. Best guess on what he is?

HHHUUUUUMMMMMMM????

Not too sure here.
But If I had to guess.

My 4 choices would be:
Cichlasoma maculicauda - Black belt
or
herichtys bifasciatus
or
herichtys regani
or
herichtys synspilus (only because my female had a similar tail marking when young)

Now I'm not going by anything scientific here.
Just by the look. The rounded mouth area etc.....

...and taking into consideration that it is still young.
So I am assuming that it will color up a bit as it gets older.

You now have me very curious.
Please do me a favor and post the true name when you do get an id.

Those Vieja species are capable of hybridizing as well, further confusing things

My guess is its Vieja zonatus.
