I want to tie some java moss to rocks. It looks like alot of people use fishing line. So if i bought a brand new spindle of fishing line do i need to do anything to it like wash it or anything? Does fishing line have any residue from manufacture?

When I tie moss to wood or rocks, I don't bother to clean it. I haven't had a tank crash from not cleaning it.

btw... most fishing line will degrade over time(rot)

but thread(cotton) is fine and usually degrades more quickly.

I use "SpiderWire" as it is made of rayon and other biodegradable properties. I do not use the monofilament as it is a plastic and does not degrade as well. SpiderWire knots easily, is thinner, and comes in many colors to blend in.
