So last night I picked up 2 bulldog plecos, but I find today that this could be more than 1 type. I am pretty certain that I have Chaetostoma sp. aff. milesi http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=407 and not the smaller Chaetostoma sp. (1) http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=318

I need to look at them to be sure, but am 99% sure that mine are spotted like the first link, and don't have stripes like the plecos in the 2nd link. If they are the plecos in the first link, I am having trouble finding out very much about them at all. Specifically what kind of temperature to keep them in, and what type of water they prefer.

I had gone in looking for BN plecos, but had read up on a few different plecos before heading to the LFS, they were out of BN's but had some of the bulldogs, so since I had read they stay pretty small picked up 2. What's strange is that if it is a milesi is that everything I read online says they are rare, and not usually imported.

Anyone keep these? have any information? I will try and take some pictures over the weekend. Thanks.

Great, thanks. Looks like they should be fine, I feel like mine have smaller spots than the ones in that link, but I only put them in last night and they went and hid somewhere. Looks like they should be a nice addition to the tank though :)

I would put them in the same temp. there is on a usual tropical tank, 76-80 degrees. Good luck with your 2 new plecos.

Hmmm I have the tank at 78 at the moment, I am about to move the tank in a couple days though so can try and lower it a couple degrees. I don't really want to go much lower than 76 because of the angel that is in the tank.

perhaps, instead of lowering to a temp that the angel isnt going to like, and have it still be too high for the plec, you could either set up another tank, so as to properly care for this fish that youve made a decision to keep, or get rid of it to a home that will keep it properly.

Thanks for pointing me to plqanet catfish. I have a temperate tank that's regulated to 21 degrees (70 farenheit).

An expert on another forum recommended the bulldog plec with stripes as it is perfect for my temp setup. I got it and then I researched online and all the sources were saying I need to have it at minimum 23-24.

Look at this source: http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/fish/bulldogpleco.php (although it might be different as this one is spotted, mine has "tectonic" pattern.

Planet catfish has laid my fears to rest: http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=318
