DNA research in 2002 proved this algae to be the species Aegagropila linnaei; I included all its' names because of the confusion ...
Anyway, I have a bunch of these. I have tried various fertilizers, calcium (gypsum, calcium hydroxide, micro-nutrients, vitamin b12, etc.) I have gotten faster growth with an orchid food, some micro-nutrients, a little vitamin b12 now and then, superthrive, etc.) And, of course, bright lighting is very necessary to heavy pearling (real sunlight is king--however, water around 76-78f seems best, and at 82f growth seems to slow) ... I would like to set up an outdoor pool and sell these to local fish stores, who always seem to have short supplies ...
Anyone else been attempting experiments to accelerate growth? Any related phenomenon observed?
Regards,
JS
