Hey guys and gals,

Well yesterday I was able to pick up a full saltwater set-up for a great price. Everything was included as well as a hang on the back sump and a very nice stand and canopy. This tank is going to be a FOWLR for now since it is my first salt water tank, but who knows where I will go with it. Here are the first few pics after set up. I will be getting a few fish for it tomorrow. The previous owner had the tank set up for 7 or so years, so everything is already cycled and everything was kept wet during transport. Please let me know if I should change anything with the live rock.

For now the stocklist is going to be:

Pair of percula clowns
Royal Gramma
Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
Turbo Snails

I haven't decided on the rest of the stock yet..

Don't mind the powerhead, I need to get some suction cups for it..

Well, the scape has changed, and now I am waiting for some more live rock to get it exactly how I want it. I have also stocked the tank, the current stock is in sig. I will be getting some snails and some shrimp here shortly as well. Once the tank is set up for a while and I feel I can handle the corals, I will be going that route.

Here's Kobe, if your a Lakers fan you'll know why..

By the way, if you have just moved this tank…added new or reused the old sand…or added more rock….THE TANK WILL GO THROUGH A CYCLE. Reusing sand, especially if it hasn’t been washed after the move, is going to cause a cycle and a tremendous spike in nitrates.

Watch you parameters (especially the “N” ones) and be ready for major water changes if and when they spike.

I have been checking parameters every morning and night. The sand actually never left the tank. When moving the tank I left a little bit of water in it, just enough to cover all the sand. I'm not sure if that changes the situation or not.

So far, the tests have been consistent.

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate ~15
PH 8.3

That's not correct. If you use sand from a cycled tank, you may get a some ammonia from anything that died in it and the bacteria has to handle that. It isn't a cycle. The only way you're going to get tremendous spikes in anything is if you're been tremendously lazy with your maintenance.

Looks like you need some more water movement at the surface in th alst pic for good gas exchange. Otherwise nice tank. Everytime i see a new tank setup I want to buy another one and do it again.
