Hi All,

I am starting a marine tank again after 10 years and have a few questions that I was hoping to get some help on.

Question #1: I am using a wet/dry for a 45 gallon tall tank and am wondering if any of the bioballs should be submerged? About a 1/4 of them are completely under water.

Question #2: What is the minimum size pump I need to push the water back up for a 45?

Question #3: What do the pump rating "Max. Head" refer to?

thanks,
Pat

A: You don't need the bio balls. Your primary filtration will come from live rock and a deep sand bed (DSB).

Question #2: What is the minimum size pump I need to push the water back up for a 45?

A: I'd go for something that can move about 500 GPH at 4' head (see below).

Question #3: What do the pump rating "Max. Head" refer to?

A: The highest point to which a given pump can move water.
