Filter help!

I bought a new tank and the filter doesnt seem to be working. It stayed on at first but would quickly stop and now it just stays off. It seems like it's not taking in any water and im lost on what to do! Please Help!

Corri: what kind of filter (brand/model) and then we can all provide more specific help. There are a lot of filters out there.

Top Fin 20 tetra but my aquatech wont work in the tank either. If i put them in my old tank they work fine but in my new one they just stop.

Your new tank have a different edge on the top of it? Like a eurobrace or is it the standard edge? Did you check the impeller and plumb with water to start (sorry, don't mean to be insulting if you already did this, you would be surprised how many people forget).

I did everything im supposed to... I put sand in mine too, i guess thats it! lol wow something so simple!

It is amazing what little it takes to jam the impeller..but it does get frustrating.
