I have a 4 inch Goldfish he seems to have lost most of his scales on both sides of his body, now there appears to be black spots before his tail. What gives? Any help would be great. He's in a tank with Oscars and 2 convicts, but they seem to leave him alone, because of his size. This is also a well maintained, established tank with water in acceptable limits.Thanks.

Sounds like the cichlids are doing some serious damage that you are not seeing as it happens, just the aftermath. He should be separated.

Black on areas recently injured is new growth.

He's moved into a 55gal with 4 other goldfish. I think the convict was beating him up. Thanks again.

Convicts and oscars are notorious for causing scale and fin damage on goldfish, no matter the size. It's excellent that you had another tank to move him to.
While he's healing you'll want to be sure to keep the water very clean and monitor his wounds for any sign of infection. You may want to add some melaleuca/tea tree-based medications like Mela-fix to the water as a natural preventative.
Your 55 gallon will be an excellent home for four goldfish as long as they are all double tailed fancy goldfish. Singletails will outgrow a tank that size.
