Is it safe to paint an aquarium hood?

I found a little 5 gallon full hood for my 5 gallon metal rimmed tank. I think it would be pretty neat to spray paint the hood to match the metal rim. None of the paint would be inside I just worry about painting the black plastic part of the light since it's built into the hood

no problem doing that. use Krylon Fusion spraypaint to do it. it bonds to plastic really well. even though it bonds to plastic i still like to give it a quick sand just to give it something even better to adhere to.

sanding and spray painting should take you a total of 25 minutes if you stop to take a break about 3 times. Allow aprox. 24 hours to dry if you will use anything you just sprayed in your aquarium.
