Can you combine an undergravel filter AND a substrate heater in one tank? I have never had a substrate heater before, so I don't know how much heat it puts out. Could it be put on top of, or below, an undergravel filter?
Why would I want to do this you may ask? And the answer is to get the best of both worlds. The undergravel filter (in reverse flow) can help keep the water quality good by not letting tons of fish crap from building up within the substrate; and the substrate heater can keep the roots of a freshwater planted aquarium warm.
