i have always been told if a rock bubbles when vinegar is poured on it, then it is not safe for your tropical aquarium. i picked up a piece of feller stone rainbow rock from pet store and tried it out and it "fizzed". is this rock safe for my tank? does this method for searching for tank-safe rocks work? or is it not fool proof? thanks!

I believe the fizz indicates that it raises PH/hardness, and not that means it's unsafe for your aquarium. Strangely enough, I don't think rainbow rock normally raises PH/hardness.
