ive seen some of these moss ball things in some people's tanks, i have a little mini bow 5 with a betta in it, heres the tank http://www.petco.com/product/104565/All-Glass-Aquarium-5-Gallon-Aquarium-Kit.aspx

and i was looking to get either a moss ball or some java moss,

does that tank have enough light,

what maintenance does the moss ball and java moss require?

which one do you guys recommend for my setup?

You need to switch the incandescent bulb out for a screw-in CFL, but other than that, you should be fine. Both are easy to take care of.

Marimo does require some maintenance - you should squeeze it to knock out any debris it might have caught, much like a sponge - I usually do this with every few water changes in the bucket.

java moss is a little tempermental about temperature (around 77F at the most) in a small tank like that. It looks and grows differently than marimo or other moss balls. java moss is more like a vine than a moss, while marimo (i think) are soft and carpet-y. Java moss attaches itself so most things (large gravel, some rocks, driftwood, fake plants) and grows like a field instead of a carpet.

I actually dont know very much about the other types of moss so i would encourage you to do some google work and find out which type of moss you like best, and what is suited to your tank/inhabitants.
