Mafia #53: The Great Mafia War
The year is roughly 1981 and the city of Palermo, Sicily is in the midst of a mafia war. Although the Sicilian mafia has historically seen numerous power struggles between opposing clans, this time around the stakes are even higher and the stage is set for more violence and bloodshed. Who will come out on top?
Teams:
Citizens- caught in the middle of the mafia’s violence and would like to stop the illegal doings once and for all. (cannot communicate with each other)
Corleonesi clan- the instigators of the war. A rural family quickly rising to power in Sicily who hopes to gain complete access to the illegal affairs happening in the area. (can communicate with each other)
Sicilian Mafia Commission- the commission’s power in the region is threatened by the rebellious Corleonesi's and too many of its leading members are being recruited to the that side. The SCM wants to restore the balance of power while still controlling the mafia’s underground activities. (can communicate with each other)
*Mafia teams each send a hit and an investigation per night, but only one of each will go through. That means whoever doesn't have a successful hit that particular night will get the result of the investigation they sent. On the other side, whichever team has the hit put through will not see the result of their investigation.
PRs:
Sicilian president-has power to turn one player to the opposing side during the course of the game and can comm. with the Det
*If turning an innocent to a mafia, the 50/50 will be decided at random for which team they are placed on. At that point they can communicate with that team
Doctor- has one protection per night for a hit, cannot protect themselves
Detective- has one investigation per night and can comm. With the pres.
*For investigations any mafia player will only show as that, not which side they are on.
Luciano Leggio- Don of Corleonesi clan who has gained a lot of power himself, he controls the blackmail which allows one player's vote to be switched and can be used at any point in the game. LL will be revealed only as "mafia" for investigations. This role must send hit and invest for their clan each night unless not currently in the game
*SMC hits and invest can be sent in by anyone assuming there is a consensus
Random occurrences:
“White shotgun” killing – the role of the player hit will not be revealed until end of game, will only happen once.
Kidnapping- a random player will "disappear" and cannot post for the remainder of that day (most likely there will be no UDs depending on how the current game plays out so there will be no punishment if the chosen player has not voted)
Snitch list- as the SMC “knows” the members of the rival clan a list may or may not be revealed during the game containing the name of one Corleonesi clansmen among several other innocent players. (Obviously the SMC in this game will not know the real identities)
*I would like about 16 players. 4 Corleonesi (including Leggio), 4 SMC, 1 pres, 1 DR, 1 Det, and at least 4 citizens.
*A team wins when the numbers of other two teams combined are either even or outnumbered. For example, if there are 5 citizens, 2 SMC's, and only 1 Corleonesi left, the citizens would win outright.
*Please note that a historically accurate version of the game would not have the Corleonesi family pitted squarely against the SMC as the commission was merely split between the Corleonesi family and it's numerous allies and the remaining clans in the commission that rallied together. Technically both sides were still part of the SMC. But for the sake of choosing two sides, I chose the main family involved and the entire SMC. Just letting all you history buffs/interested players know.
