Hey!
One of my stupid questions for the day, lol, :
If I'm trying to grow some java ferns - tied to rocks - in a dish without fish, can I use liquid miracle grow? (and would this b ok for moss too?)

And, (stupid query #2 - I'm out doing myself today, lol -)
if the room light is a flouresscent bulb, do I need to have a bulb that's closer to the plants too?

Thanks! :)

:help:

I think one of the ingredients is slightly toxic to fish- and can build up.

I'm sure an expert is just around the corner to tell us which ingredient that is! ;)

More importantly though- if you use miracle grow you'll be helping the algae out tremendously and will likely see a major algae bloom. Aquarium ferts are better.

#2- for java ferns, you might not need special lighting- just room light may be enough... they can survive very low levels of light... any other plant and you may consider at least minimal lighting for the aquarium.

Miracle-Gro is going to be way too strong for Java fern and Java moss grown with just ambient room lighting. If your looking to feed your plants, I would just put in a very small pinch of flake food once a month. It breaks down slower and will release nutrients at a rate more consistent with your plants' growth.
