is this a good price? it comes with hood, lighting, substrate, filter. basically everything but the stand. I'll probably end up upgrading the filtration, but is this a good starting point?

I say the price is too high without a stand. Even with a stand I wouldnt pay over $150, unless it was brand new acrylic.

even if its new, maybe $100 with the stand. i would keep looking. iv picked up a 75 oceanic with matching stand, mag 350, light strip set and another 60 bucks of goodies for $225. good deal are out there. you just have to keep looking.

the 75 with a stand sounds much better for 200. Way too much IMO for a 55 without stand.

At first blush, I'd say that $200 for a 55g without a stand and probably needing to upgrade filtration right away would likely be far too much. If it had some nice lights and was a high-end tank, that might sway me. But since most used tanks are your standard glass tanks, they go for $1 per gallon. If it was a nice Oceanic, modern-decor-style, or acrylic tank, then they would likely go for much more.

I'd go for the 75g instead.
