Algae Identification: STICKY?!

I feel like this should be a sticky in the Newbie section, and I haven't seen a lot about it. I know a ton of people could chip in and provide some information, but it would be a nice resource to see about the different kinds of algaes, whether they are good, or bad or really bad all in one place. It's nice to have links, but they often end up broken or unusable. Can everyone pitch in to write about different algae types and the method of control etc.?
