Hi all just setting up a 200l tank with sump just wondering what size return pump ill need got a 3000l but seems to powerful. Would it be ok to put something on after the pump to slow the flow or will it be ok.

You will need to adjust your pump outflow to be slightly less than the what the overflow can handle.

Eample: if your overflow can handle 800 gallons per hour, you will need pump to not exceed 600-700gph.

Yes, it is perfectly fine to put a valve on the output side of a pump to slow down the flow if it is too much for you. It will not harm the pump at all (actually will use less electricity if you restrict the output).

Thanks lads pump is running on tank at the mo but water is running very fast over the weir had no problems. But will it be pulling to much water through for this size tank. Or should i put something on it to slow it down.
