I was at Skipton Pet Center today, and I saw this pair of gobies. They were labeled as yellow walking gobies. I asked one of the guys working there- he said they get to be around 4 inches, and like softer water.

I'm thinking about getting them, but was a good little girl and didn't impulse buy. Now- I assumed that was a, uh, common common name for them- they didn't have a scientific name. I've been searching, and can't come up with anything. I think I'd recognize a picture, can anyone help?

there are tons of gobies flooding the fish trade right now and some of them even dont have a real name yet.

Could you describe its shape and coloration more? I've never heard of a yellow walking goby. There's a yellow watchman goby but that's saltwater.

It was kind of a light gray color- not very colorful overall. It definitely used its fins underneath its body (not sure what they're called ) to hold itself up, so I could see why its called "walking". They were about 3" each, maybe.

maybe this:

Sicyopterus japonicus
Nope, lighter color definitely, more... almost see-thru? Not sure what word I'm looking for. They also "sat" more upright- almost like a mudskipper, actually.

Research first, buy later.

maybe you can get a picture of the goby in the store. That would help alot as there are tons of species out there now.

Yeah. I think I'm going to go to Ned's today, and see if any apistos win me over (I have room for a pair of apistos OR the gobies), and if they don't I'll go back and see if the gobies are still there, and get a pic.
