Anyway LxWxH/277 = Imperial (or UK) gallons.
What's odd is my tank is manufactured in Canada and sold in Canada and is called a 45g. Its actually 167 litres or 37 Imperial gallons (which we used before we switched to metric) or 44 US gallons (which we never used).
It seems the marketing formula is:
LxWxH /200 something + big fudge factor = advertised gallons.
(On a side note. Since we have adopted the metric system a pint of beer can be any size! No one is regulating the use of imperial units.)
