Just curious as to the consensus here for the maximum stocking numbers in an mbuna cichlid tank.

The tank is 75g and filtered with 2x 350B Penguin Bio-wheel Filters (with 2 "SuperCartridges" bio-media cartridges in each) and a Rena XP3. 2x weekly large PWC's. The mbuna cichlids we have are as follows:
  • Electric Yellow Lab
  • Acei
  • Cobalt Blue Zebra
  • Albino Zebra
  • Red Zebra
We also have a couple Bristlenose Plecos in there.

I know many recommend over stocking an mbuna tank to reduce aggression.

Thanks for your insight!

In a 75g, generally 4 species of mbuna with a total of about 16-20 fish would be a good number. With the filtration you have, you may be able to get away with a few more, but keep in mind the zebras get to 5-6". I'd also think about getting synodontis cats instead of the plecos. Any algae growth on rocks, etc., would be beneficial for the mbuna to graze on. The plecos might hinder that a bit, but that's just MHO.
