Hose fittings for CO2 reactor?

I'm about to buy a CO2 system, and it's asking for "hose fitting size" for the reactor (http://www.aquariumplants.com/AquariumPlants_com_s_Own_External_Reactor_p/ext5000.htm). The choices are 1", 1/2", 3/4", and 5/8". Since this is the first time I'm going with a pressurized system, I don't have a clue as to what I should get.

What size should I choose? Why would I pick a larger size over a smaller size or vice versa? This is for a 150 gallon tank, btw.

Whats the hose (tube) size of your filter?


If you get a barb sizing that is a bit too small, you could use a hose clamp to tighten the connection. If the barb size is too big, you might have trouble getting the tube over the barb even if you do heat it up to soften it. In that case, you could go to a hardware store to get a barb replacement (simple enough if they didn't glue/fuse the fittings together).

I haven't gotten the filters yet for this tank, but I've used Rena XP3's in the past so I'll most likely go with that filter again. If I recall, it's 5/8".

So I guess this means I should get the 5/8" hose fitting?

When you asked what the hose size is of my filter, that kind of turned on the light bulb in my head as to what hose fitting I should get for the CO2 system. Looking at the diagram for the CO2 system at aquariumplants.com, I see the outtake of the filter plugs into the intake of the reactor. So it all makes sense now as to why I would choose one fitting over another.
