Out of curiosity I've begun studying anemones and this question so far really stumps me. Every time I look up either name it seems like I get the same pictures and information. Does anyone know a good place to learn the difference or have any personal experience with either?

Heteractis crispa has a tougher column and more adhesive verrucae. It also tends to have more and longer tentacles, though sickly individuals of either species can have short tentacles. H. crispa also get larger. A lot of these identifying characteristics will be more obvious with the more experience you have with anemones. Here's a great reference site: http://www.nhm.ku.edu/inverts/ebooks/intro.html

Thanks! Now that I'm learning more about them, I'm seeing how unique they really are. Still scary though! lol
