One of my fish looks like he was dusted with powdered sugar.....
there are little white spots all over him, and a few on the others.
They are still eating and swimming normally.

From what I've read the best treatment seems to be upping the temperature and adding salt. Aquarium salt or table salt? 2 teaspoons per gallon correct?

Thanks.

1. What is the size of your tank?
55 gallon

2. What are your water parameters? State the brand of test kit used.

All within a safe range.

3. Is your aquarium set up freshwater or brackish water?
freshwater

4. How long the aquarium has been set up?
3 months

5. What fish do you have? How many are in your tank? How big are they? How long have you had them?
Green Severum
5 silver dollars
1 Blood Parrot
- yes a tad overstocked, working on finding a bigger tank

6. Were the fish placed under quarantine period (minus the first batch from the point wherein the tank is ready to accommodate the inhabitants)?

the spots are on the SD they had been in their own tank for about a month or so

7. What temperature is the tank water currently?
~72

8. Are there live plants in the aquarium?
small java fern a bit of java moss

9. What filter are you using? State brand, maintenance routine and power capacity.
Mag 350

10. Any other equipment used (aside from heater and filter which are two very important components of the tank)?
none

11. Does your aquarium receive natural sunlight at any given part of the day? What is your lighting schedule (assuming you do not rely on sunlight for our viewing pleasure)?

poor lighting, being fixed today. 7Am to 9Pm on a timer

12. When did you perform your last water change and how much water was changed? How often do you change your water? Do you vacuum the substrate?

Substrate was vacuumed 2 days ago, 50% water change about to be done

13. What foods do you provide your fish? What is the feeding schedule?
Cichlid pellets every other day, frozen shrimp cubes 3X a week

14. What unusual signs have you observed in your fish?
white spots on the silver dollar

15. Have you treated your fish ahead of diagnosis? If so, what treatments did you use? State your reasons for planning ahead of proper diagnosis.

Haven't dosed anything yet

You're spot on (see what I did there?) Up to 86 or 88F and salt. Continue this for 3+ days after the spots go away!!

lol spot on...clever. ( it'd be much funnier if it wasn't my favorite fish :p )

Would it hurt to dose all the tanks that the fish had been in?

I dose 2 teaspoons per gallon and take temp to 86-88F....

Do a large gravel/substrate vac before hand....

Maintain the concentration until a full week has passed after all visible signs have left...

Gravel vac at each water change and ensure the replacement water is at the same concentration...

woops....table salt is fine..iodized or not...and greatly less expensive than "aquarium" salt......watch that other tank in case it shows up there.

I agree with Bishop, I wouldn't dose unless you see spots. No need to cause stress in a tank that is potentially ich-free.
