I have a 37 gallon tank with 4 adult fish in it, 3 mollies (1 sailfin, 1 marble, and 1 gold mollie), and 1 black fin shark. For the past couple days, there has been a white film on the heater which builds up over the period of about 1 day. I've taken the heater out of the tank several times to wipe the film off, but it's so delicate that even moving the heater flakes the film off into the tank. This doesnt seem to affect the fish at all, even though they nibble at the pieces on the bottom. My first thought was that it was a calium buildup of some sort...? anyone have any ideas...?
