In a 10g? It was something that was suggested to me in a thread when I was asking about what I could do in my tank that was a little 'different'.

Anyone have any tips? I know eventually I'll have too many for a tank that size, so I'll have to upgrade/get more tanks.

How many fish in a 10g, what do I need to watch out for, et cetera?

I've been doing some research, but advice is exceedingly helpful from people who've been there.

Sexing is determined largely by size difference, yes? Or have I missed something else more definite than that in my reading?

Yes, but you can have abnormally large females and smaller than average males. Venting is the only 100% method.

Just start out with at least a trio and you should end up with a decent enough ratio. You can always remove unruly males and juvies when the tank becomes too full. I'd go with maybe 6 or 7 adults at most.
