So - I wake up this morning to my female BNP stuck in the pvc tubing of my air driven oxygen plus bio-filter #2. This thing: http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=3936
She was stuck in the top part, head first, in that little gray pvc pipe... So, happily the top part came off and I was able to fit my pinky in there and push her back out by the head, as I pulled her out at the same time (VERY GENTLY) by the tail. She emerged a little frazzled, but quickly swam away - I didn't see any cuts on her, or even any scale damage (that I could see), I think she will be fine... she was back munching on driftwood a few minutes later & I got a pretty good look at her...
I took the filter out so she wouldn't go back in there while I was at work - I dropped it into the 29g so the BB wouldn't die off... I was thinking maybe I should just leave it out? Or I could try stuffing sponge filter into that pvc tube until she gets bigger, but I am worried that the air would just blow it out/not be able to get through?
So I have questions:
1. Should I treat her with anything? She looked o.k. this morning, but honestly I didn't get to stay home and continue to monitor because I had to come to work
2. She is in a 75g high light planted tank w/ pressurized CO2. The main filter is the Rena XP3 (well established, 3+ years), which I angle up towards the surface to get some surface agitation -- I had the air driven sponge in there to create a little bit more oxygen (had it balanced with the CO2 nicely... ) So, do you think the Rena XP3 will:
A. provide enough oxygen for the fish (CO2 is somewhere between 25-30ppm) and
B. do you think I will "miss" the extra BB from the sponge filter?
Here is a cell phone pic of a part of the tank... I don't want to kill my plants with any treatments, so I would QT her if toxic plant treatment is recommended...
