On a 12 - 16 inch standard tank the Marineland Double bright can be a great planted tank light. They do have some quirks. The LEDs are one watt units and stem type plants tend to grow toward the LEDs. Bushier plants will do better. LED lighting is different (whiter) and may not look quite right to you for a while. One draw back for me is the length. They come in three lengths and don't go from side to side in many standard setups. I'm holding out for a Marineland Triple Bright. Or a DIY.

That was my concern. I"m not worried about the width, but its about 18.5 from my tank top to my substrate, and the PAR at that depth had me concerned. I know it would be a step up from what I have now, I'm just concerned its not the right step.
