L010a is a whiptail catfish, not a pleco, right?

hey all,

i know, i know, probably a silly question (thread title), but the L010a catfish is one i've recently spotted and i like it enough to get one or so.

who keeps/kept these? i've done a bit of research, but tell me all about them!

Well, I have no experience with these guys, but your thread got me interested so I did a little research. From what I am reading (and I could be wrong) they are listed as red lizard whiptail catfish/plecos. So, I think they might still be considered plecos, but are whiptail catfish as well. As far as keeping them, I can't help as I have just now heard of them lol, but I'm curious to find out what people know about them in this thread. They are cute little guys. :)

I got a group of juvies a couple years ago, grew them out and they spawned. Fry are more difficult to raise than other pleco's like BN, about the same as other whiptails though from what I've read. I don't have them any longer, sold off the breeders and grown-out juvies to make room for new fish. Very mellow fish, don't move around much (at least during the day.) Worthless for cleaning up algae, they prefer a somewhat meatier diet. I fed them NLS 1mm Cichlid pellets and veggie flake mainly, occaisonally frozen bloodworms.

thanks for the feedback Todd!

so these guys probably won't care about things like zucchini or other veggies, eh?

what about driftwood? is it essential for them, or can they go without?

thanks!

Driftwood is necessary for Panaques, not whiptails. I also raised BN pleco's in the same tank with the L-10a's, so they did get canned green beans occaisonally, but never zucchini. O don't think they need it in their diet, but it does no harm.

Atlantis in NY (cichlids.net) has them in stock now, and likely for the best price you'll find online IME.
