One of this toad's best chances of survival would be that it turns out to be an easy to keep and breed pet. As the article said, habitat destruction is the greatest threat to it's survival. I'm sure now that the golf course is done there will be no need for further development in the area! The only surer way to guarantee its survival is figure out how to make it taste good enough to get people to pay beau-coup for it!
