Hi Everyone! I am a teacher of EVSS ( Environmetal Systems and Socities) in an IB World School. I want to make my students understand the concept of open and closed systems through a lab based activity. I have got 6 glass aquariums made for the class and i need to know about what all things do i put in the aquariums and the what readings do my student make? Please help me out with few suggestions.

the place to start would be the nitrogen cycle. AC's sticky cycling thread is a good place get some of your curriculum
The Walstad Method (Diana Walstad) would be a cool subject for an environmental class as well. A quick Google should get you all the info you need.
What is the time period for the lab? Will it be just one session or throughout the entire semester, year, etc?
Maybe do something along the lines of measuring dissolved solids added and then eventually removed, maybe in different volumes too.
