Please Help Choose between Two Betta Tanks

I'm planning to get a king betta from Petco. http://www.petco.com/product/113290/Male-Halfmoon-King-Betta.aspx?CoreCat=OnSiteSearch They get up to 4"

I can't decide between 1) a 10x10x12H (inches) and 2) a 14x8.6x10H tank. I plan to have ground cover plants with a few bigger plants, driftwood, and maybe some small rocks of pebbles. They are both about the same size, 5.1 to 5.5 gallons respectively.

Which one is bigger? The first is a bit deeper by 2", the second is 4" longer but not as deep front to back. The second had more volume (by.4 gallons!)

The tank will be cycled and heated.

Thanks!
Terri

I would say go for the shorter/longer tank primarily because they are a surface breather.

Thanks you guys! :)

One more thing, do you think 8" is enough for the king betta to turn around or move front to back? <blushes if this is silly to ask>

Personally I wouldn't put a king in anything smaller than 10g. There is a big difference in how much tank space they use and their activity level when compared to the smaller guys. I had to upgrade mine to a 20 and he uses every inch of that space. If I were you I would try a 10 instead of spending money on a 5g only to realize he'll need more room.

my king bette(which will soon be theirs) doesnt seem anymore active then my other betta
Mine are extremely more active than my others, I'm assuming because of the shorter tail. Many King owners end up upgrading for the reasons I gave. I never said a 5g is not doable, just that they are much happier when given more space to swim, IMO. http://www.bettafishbubble.com/king-betta/
