I bought a used 48" strip Light. It has two 24" spots for bulbs. What is the highest wattage bulb I can get for this strip light?
Thanks!

If this is a standard inexpensive strip light, it will take two 20 watt bulbs/tubes/lamps.
These will be either T12 (1.5 inches in diameter) or T8 (1 inch in diameter)
However, this would be an unusual 48" strip with two 24" sockets.
Could you post a picture, if you haven't already gotten it to work?

I have gotten it to work but it has 2- 20 cool white bulbs in it. I will try and send pictures tomorrow, I have never added a picture. My problem is I want the strongest bulbs to add more light. I bought two of these strip lights and thought I could put them both on the 55 gallon so I could grow some low light plants. If the bulbs are twenty watt with the two strip lights I could only have 80 watts and I should have 160 watts. If I could buy a stronger light maybe that would work. the person above says I coulds use a VHO bulb 75 watt. I don't know what that is and if I could use that in my strip light.
Thanks

One of my 55's has a shop light (2x 40W T12 daylight bulbs) suspended 4 inches above the tank with inert sand substrate and I am growing various crypts, swords, and ferns. My other 55 has a odyessea fixture (2x 54W t5ho daylight bulbs) about 2 inches above the tank with sand capped dirt/clay substrate and I am growing various crypts, swords, ferns, rotala indica, and dwarf sags. both are non co2, no added ferts.

Apparently I have a rare strip light. I can't find it anywhere. My strip light is 48" most of the strip lights have one long bulb this has two 24" bulbs. I want to have a planted tank. Does the VHO Bulb come in 24" will my strip take 75 watts. that could give me 150 watts. I bought two of these strip lights second hand thinking to get enought light I would have to use both lights. How can I find out if my fixture will more than 20 watts. What is the difference between T5, T8 and T12 Thanks.

T5, T8, and T12 refer to the diameter of the bulb. They don't interchange If you wanted to hook up a VHO you would need to get a new ballast and clips. However as in my last post you can grow a lot of stuff with 80-100W range.

If you are going to add another lamp with 40 more watts, as Maverick said above, you will have enough light to grow numerous plants. I has a 55g in the past with 80 wts of NO fluorescent light and the plants grew wonderfully.

Good luck,
Roy
