Hey guys,

SO my 20G 100 watt aqueon heater just failed. Its not heating or anything, I turned all the dials while it was in my hand and plugged in, and the result was nothing as it didn't even warm my hand a tiny bit. It was past the 1 year warranty:( It came with a 20G kit from petco....................So I am having a hard time choosing heaters.............

I am buying a new one, and since prices between 150 watt-300 watt only differ by $2-$5

I am thinking of going bigger as in the future, I may just run only larger tanks with dividers for cost efficiency...........

Heaters I currently Have

-Ebo Jager 250 Watt(on my 72G)
-Fluval M 200 Watt(on my 29G)
-Aqueon 100 Watt(on my 10G)

And thats it:(

So, I have 2X 10Gs sitting around, and getting another 29G soon..........so a question.

These are my options:

Buy a 300 watt Fluval M
and then.........

300 Watt Fluval M on my 72G
250 Watt Ebo Jager on my 29G
200 Watt Fluval M on my 20G
100 Watt Aqueon on my 10G

OR

Buy another 200 Watt Fluval M
and then.......

250 Watt Ebo Jager on my 72G
200 Watt Fluval M on my 29G
200 Watt Fluval M on my 20G
100 Watt Aqueon on my 10G

OR

Buy a 150 Watt Fluval M
and then........

250 Watt Ebo Jager on my 72G
200 Watt Fluval M on my 29G
150 Watt Fluval M on my 20G
100 Watt Aqueon on my 10G

I am leaning towards the first one............bc it is getting quite cold here in SJ, CA.............and I feel that 250 watts is very underrated for that size tank......isn't the rule 4-5 watts per gallon and if its the colder time of year, It would be 5 watts per gallon meaning it should be 5X72 which is 360 watts.......but i have 250 watts, it doesn't get super cold, so 300 watts would be better, correct?

and on the lower end, 4X72 is 288 watts which also rounds up to 300 watts.......so im assumign i should have 300 watts minimum?

the tank was started in april so i haven't experienced cold with the heater yet.........soon though as in 1-2 weeks it'll be quite cold

thanks!other options are welcome

btw, the fluval M 150 watt is the CHEAPEST OUT OF ALL OF THEM:)

I'm not sure but I've always liked visi therms and they have worked for 3+ years. Is price a problem? Best to get the more expensive ones so they last longer if price isn't a factor.

Price isn't an issue...........let me search them up

they are cheaper than the fluval ones..........so i think i'll stick with fluvals........i had seen those earlier, but i think fluvals look nicer(although looks don't matter), but the fluvals are a bit more expensive, and seem to perform better i guess? idk.

but for sure, NO fluval Es........as 1/2 of the reviews have major issues with the heater

as it doesn't function while the colorful lights and other decorative stuff(unnecessary) function

I like the Visitherms and Finnex's, I have a dead Aqueon too, they're suppose to have a lifetime warranty though, haven't gotten around to trying to get a replacment though.

From Aqueon's website : All Aqueon heaters are guaranteed for life. Probably 1 year for filter and light.

Seems like the Aqueon's have a high failure rate though I won't buy anymore I will get my replacment and keep it as a spare. The Fluval's seem decent with good reviews probably what I would go with out of your choices. I have inline on my 90g, finnex on my 40b and 29g salt, visitherm on my 29, aqueon on my 10. Also a couple older Eheim's in the closet. Finnex is great dont have to stick your hand in the tank to change temp's, visitherm is easy to read vs say the aqueon heaters I have to take out of the tank to read the adjustments. Finnex is kind of pricey though I think they're a little more then the Fluval's.
