I am wondering how long it is going to take to get the algae levels to cover the rocks and tanks? I give it about 12 hours of flourescent and regular lighting a day, but I think I need to try to keep the water temp more consistent because the ambient tempratures in the room can drop at night ultimately effecting my water. Should I get a beta heater? I am good with water changes, so that should help. What is the secret of keeping mini reefs alive and dwelling?

Not sure what you mean by algae levels. Are you trying to promote coraline growth? If you have significant temp changes throughout the day a heater should probably be added. What other issues are you having? Does the tank have livestock in it?
