I don't know if this is already been done but I took off the piece of plastic that is splash proof. My aquarium gets too hot so I figured if I let the fans out in the open they could actually cool down the aquarium. Would be better to have them facing the same direction or two different directions.

Sounds dangerous to me. I've seen my goby Jump and hit the plastic splash guard. I think he would of damaged my led lights if I didn't haw the guard. Try mounting a fan blowing across the water surface. That will cool much better. Also I have found on my biocube that both fans blowing in keeps it cooler that separate directions

I agree. Even a fairly flat water surface will have some salt spray and if water hits a bulb, it could very well shatter.
