Jewel Cichlids are African and Gold Severums are from South American and have slightly differant water requirements. They are however about the same size and the same temperment. If you tried it, you would need an awfully big tank to try it in....
It is a general rule of thumb NOT to house Africans with South Americans. I have done it in the past (only on an emergency basis when I needed the tank space) and it worked out okay, although it was not a permanent change just a temporary means to a solution.
I would probably pass on trying it.Wendy
