dunna...dunna...DUNNA!DUNNA! DUNNA! (jaws theme)
Hello everyone!!!
New guy on the block here. I hail from central Illinois, and yes the "s" is silent.
I have been running a 20 gallon fresh water tank now for a little under 2 years with decent success.
It was rough in the beginning, but now my tank is doing well. Who knew cardinal tetra's were NOT hardy fish to start a tank with...(crickets)...chirp...chirp. I most recently added two new and very alive plants to my tank, java moss and some unidentified kind. I also constructed a java mat in order to create a java carpet. As for the fish i keep, 2 blue dwarf gourami's, 1 farlowella catfish, 1 Ivory mystery snail, 1 of ever color Glo-fish(genetically modified zebra danios) (5 total I think), 1 sewellia loach, 1 long finned zebra danio, and one albino danio. 2 assorted platy's, and...that's it. if you have any questions feel free to contact me.
Also I see a 40 gallon breeder tank in my future, already have a new-to-me stand for it. suggestions for setup welcomed.

Welcome to the forum. I love just a bit east of you in north central Indiana. Used to live just across the Indiana border near Chicago. I have glowies too (among multiple other fish) and they actually bred in my tank recently. See ya around the forum ^^

Welcome to AC! I am in northern IL.
The petco $1 per gallon sale starts on the 26th so a 40b will only be $40 plus tax and all of the other equipment needed.
Your current tank seems over stocked to me, but I have only been doing this for a year. I am actually looking at a 20L or 29 at the $1 per gallon sale. From what advice people have been giving me about dwarf gourami in a 29, there should really only be one, but if yours seem to get along, I dont see why there would be a problem if you move them to a 40b.

Thanks to those of you that welcomed me. My tank might in fact be a little over stocked, but I have not had issues with the gourami's yet. (thank god)
yeah our LFS told use to not count the farlowella in our count, since he more or less only comes out at night and doesnt need "swim" room per say. Also I have been told the inch per gallon rule is not stead-fast set in stone. my tank test well and there have not been any issues with fighting. As for my equiptment, its all over "tanked" so to speak as well. heater, filter, and air pump is for a 40gal. tank. . I am not sure if that helps or not but it works for me.Also we have had this tank for about 1 to 1 1/2 years with no issues. thanks again for the warm welcome.
P.S. just picked up a 30gallon breeder today and a LED light as well!!!
I kind wish I knew that sale was coming sooner, but you live and learn I guess...maybe I will look into returning it. thanks again for the info!!!Last edited by Fish_Bone; 06-16-2012 at 9:19 PM. Reason: saw something shiney...

Yeah I can't offer much in that regard. You definitely don't want to be overstocked with some fish but some people will say they purposely overstock to a degree and just over filter for it and it works. Good luck with it though! Pm me if you ever wanna talk about the hobby or need some fish for a tank. Got too many on my hands right now (growing fry)
