I'm doing some searching around for a RO/DI system before I check out BRS's build your own and I can acros this 6 stage unit for $140. Can anyone lend some insight into the quality of this unit and if the stages on it are what I'm looking for? I'm keeping my eyes out and may link a couple more I find also if I can find something cheaper. I'm shooting for the best deal possible but definitely want quality and longevity here when it comes to my family and my fishies XD

This one

And this one I also just found

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pacific-Aqu...aultDomain_0&hash=item4aac673bf9#ht_726wt_689

I know I will need a dual TDS meter and I don't mind buying that separately. I'm seeing the, on eBay for $10. Is that about right or is that something cheap that I don't want?

This one is only 5 stage but it's also only $100. What do you think?

And thank you to anyone that helps. A lot of you have helped me along the way and with stuff like the RO/DI unit where I'm totally ignorant about it I'm very grateful for any help I can get

Here is another 6 stage and it is the cheapest of all I've listed (if only by a few bucks). Since I was looking for help I'm not sure if all the stages are the same on what I've listed and all the features match because I was just skimming through and linking to here so they all might match on their stages lol

Edit: I put this in general chat because I wasn't sure if I should put it in freshwater equipment or saltwater equipment since I'll be using it for both.

Ok so I just read this article

http://www.reef-geeks.com/forums/ga...k-good-reverse-osmosis-deionization-unit.html

Based on what it said and assuming I can get it for a decent price would it make sense to go to the build your own RO/DI on BRS and get a low micron particle filter, 2 carbon filters, a 75 gallon per day membrane with low rejection, and then one DI canister? I don't know if the RO membrane is included with the stages so that would make it a 4 or 5 stage filter. I would then add a tds meter.

How does that sound? The dual tds meter is only $2 more. I would have to look it up to see the difference but it's only 2 bucks so I'm cool with that. It seems that the setup I just described is about $162. Is there any other stuff I should add if I go this route? They have all kind of stuff that can be added for a few bucks but I don't really know what most of it is

Now... All that said, is that what I should go with or is it really ok to save a few bucks with those prebuilt eBay units I linked?

For anyone that runs across this thread looking for a good RO/DI unit at a decent price here you go. There's a company called spectra pure and they get units in that are flawed. I'm not talking mechanically flawed, I'm just talking cosmetically like a small scratch. They can't sell those units as new so they put them together into a system that they sell as "refurbished" but all parts are new. I just talked to one of their guys for a while on the phone so I got all this info.

Here is the refurbished unit

http://www.spectrapure.com/St_RODI-REFURB.htm

Now if you go to their home page you will see a sales banner (it says 4th of July sale but the guy led me to believe there's pretty much always a sale). If you click it you will see many things you can use with the RO/DI unit (including a tds meter). Now here's the kicker. In that sale page there is an item called "max cap D1" and it is $55. If you get the refurb unit and decide it isn't accomplishing what you need it to, down the road you can buy the D1 addon and it will turn that unit into exactly what their Max cap is (I believe the max cap costs over $200) so it seems to be a really great deal.

Here's the sale page

http://www.spectrapure.com/email/customer-appreciation.html

The guy was very helpful and told me to call back if I had any questions about setting it up or any other products I have questions about. He was very helpful.

On top of that I was led to their site by many people already in he hobby that recommended the refurb unit even over BRS's build your own and prebuilt units.

Hope this helps out anyone else looking into this
