Hey guys,

We have a 'water feature' in our gecko tank. We have a ZooMed 501 filter/pump that circulates the water. We've noticed that brown algae(?) has grown in the tubing lines, but we haven't seen any sign of it in the tank itself. Any advice on whether we should be worried - either about the health of our geckos or about the functionality of the pump?

Pictures below. Right now the water is mostly drained out and the top part of the fountain has been taken off. The water comes out of the fountain and drains down the rock path to a shallow rock pool at the right.

Unfortunately you cant tell what that is from the photo. More than likely it is mold. Mold is naturally occuring in the environment. It likes warm moist environments and will grow it nutrients are available. Chances are it is harmless, but if you are concerned you can get a swab sample of it and send it to a lab. This will cost you about $60-80. (BTW I am a sampling technician for a residential mold inspection co.)
