It all depends on what the intended use for the salt is.

Table salt is fine for using to treat illness or to slightly raise salinity, like you would with generic "aquarium salt".

However, it is not at all the same kind of salt that you would use for treating water for rift lake cichlids, creating brackish water, or using as Marine/Sea Salt.

I figured that was an important distinction since you posted in the Rift Lake Cichlids area...

Thanks, I intend to use it for regular aquarium salt( I don't need to buffer because my well water is perfect for rift lake cichlids)... I meant to post in general freshwater.

If using salt as a remedy 1 Tb spoon per 5 gal of water is recommended..

Just remember to adjust salt to the water removed when you do water changes if you remove 10gal of water only add 2 Tb spoons back.. That way you do not over salt the tank.. Take care and enjoy..
