I have a 4 ft 75 g tank with a 2 x 24 inch T8 fixture across the width of the tank. I am stocking mostly rainbow fish so I want to bring out the orange/red colours. The have some blue colours too. I do have a few low light plants too.

What lighting tube do you suggest for my fixture to bring out their colours?

Should I add a second light - would it have any benefit?

For me the priority is to bring out the colours of the fish.

Would you mind explaining what CRI means. Do you have an example of this type of light?

I wouldnt argue with the 5000K full spectrum.

With your setup it is easy to play with the color temp relatively cheaply. You could try 3500, 4000K or 5000K on one side and 6500K "daylight" on the other to see what you like. also could try 3500 or 5000 K as one tube per light fixture and 6500K as the other. That would give you a wider spectrum.

So I bought 2 Philips f17/t8/tl850's from a hardware/electronics store. The 950's are not in stock anywhere in my area. Tank is MUCH brighter. Well worth the money, which was less than half the price of a chain LFS.

Maybe at some point I'll compare them to the 865's.
