How big is your tank? They're really not suitable tankmates in a standard African tank. They should be treated like Discus, and have the tank and its inhabitants built around them.

oh trust me, they will have a tank of there own. getting them at under 2 inches, will start them out in a 20. then gradually up to either a 40B or a 55. which is better? also hoping to get 1 male 2 female elec blue ahli and 1 male 2 female zebra oblique :)

You'll need a bigger tank than either of those eventually.

For a group of those I wouldn't consider a tank smaller than a 72" x 24" 180 or better a 210. They need a large expanse of open sand to do their thing, and the bigger tank allows that plus the possibility of a rocky zone to provide suitable habitat for some nice tankmates, like a school of Tropheus.
