Hello guys,

So I currently have a 20L tank but found someone on craigslist selling a 36 bowfront for 30$ so I decided to get it. My issue is, my stand is large enough to support a 20L or a 29G.

The 20L dimensions are 30x12x12
The 36B dimensions are 30x15x21

Now obviously the bow wont fit perfectly on my current stand but do you think the stand will be able to support the 36B?

This is the stand I have - http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3732+13982&pcatid=13982

I have the one with the storage not the shelf - the one for 100$

Whoops forgot to add that I just cleaned my whole 20L so you think its just best to add all the water from the 20L into the 36 and then add RO/DI water for the rest? Also my stock is 4 Midas/Parrot Fry (2 at 2" and 2 at ~1"), Firemouth (1 at 2"), Jewel Fish (1 at 3") and Pink Convicts (2 at 1-2")
Thats 15 inches of fish in a 36B

I'm not an expert on structures, but I personally wouldn't trust a 3" total hang-off...but maybe that's just me.

In terms of switching water, very few bacteria reside in the water column so using old water isn't necessary. They live on hard surfaces so move over filter media, substrate, decor, etc.

never ever have portions of your tank hanging over your stand. that is a disaster waiting to happen. wait until you have a proper stand either built or bought to handle the weight and dimensions of the new bowfront tank.

as jpappy said, moving the water over is not going to be beneficial. the decor, gravel, and filter media are where the bacteria live, and as long as you keep those items wet during transfer, you should be ok. you may see a mini cycle, but a few extra water changes and Prime for dechlorinator will keep your fish healthy, happy, and safe. whenever i drain tanks and move them around, i just look at it like a huge water change for the fish.

What if I did a 1.5" hangoff on both sides. That way the stand is still in the middle of the tank and the weigh is balanced.
