That was our plan, but with this shape I am worried about getting it correct. We tried to keep the original glass part (that got broken) but after over a year we finally threw it away.

Try a window place. I got 2 piece cut for my friends 55g planted tank. It works fine. It's the same heavy duty glass top like the pet stores. I got lucky when I told my cousin that work at a window building place to order 16 glass top pieces. It was $40 for all 16 ($2.50 each). Had 4 glass top made for 40b, 2 for one 55 and 10 glass top for 20L. They even sand down the side so it will not cut you.

Ditto on the cardboard template, and then a trip to a glass shop. They can cut to your specifications and probably polish the edges for less than you'd spend on emery cloth to sand them down.

I took a regular glass hood for a 55g that was too wide for my 60g to a glass shop, and they cut all 4 pieces to size for less than $5. I believe it was $1 per cut.

As long as you measure correctly (or bring a template), a glass shop should give you a perfect sized outcome. It's what they do professionally. If they couldn't manage something so simple, they wouldn't be in business very long.

Home depot has a tendency to be up to 1/2" off with wood & glass cuts, because they cut glass and wood free of charge as a matter of convenience, not precision. The cutters are far from experts. Although, a cardboard template should make it much easier for them to hit their mark if you do go that route.
