Hey everyone,

There is a 75 gallon tank for sale near me for $100 - I figure that seems like a pretty good deal - but I dont know what to look for?

What do you think on price?

What do you think I should make sure to check?

This is the craigslist ad for it: http://maine.craigslist.org/for/3235191046.html

Ask them to remeasure...a 75 gallon should be closer to 18" wide. They could be overshooting a 55g which is the same dimensions except only about a foot wide.

Price isn't bad but not great either, although that entirely depends on your area. I'd be more inclined to go with that deal if it was more than just the bare tank.

watch for cracks in the plastic trim and any chips in the glass. I bought a used 72 once that had a cracked centre brace. Needless to say it bowed when filled. The seal let go about 6 months later. New rugs for me!

If you are going to look at it then ask them to place it on some cardboard and have the tank filled when you get there. Wet cardboard - leaky tank. If they won't fill it then assume a leaky tank.

$100 does sound a little high.

Well, I saw in another thread that Petco was having a $1.00 / gallon tank sale today. I flew down to my local petco and picked up both a 20 gallon and 55 gallon tank for less than what that guy on craigslist was charging.

Saved $80 between the both of them.

The 55 gallon tank I got at petco looks exactly the same as the one from the craigslist ad.
