A while back, after having heard so many AC members raving about Prime being the best dechlorinator, I decided to do some research about what each available dechlorinator (that I could find) was effective for, as well as how much of each was needed to dose 10g of tank water, in order to calculate a price comparison per dose, as opposed to per bottle. I thought it may be helpful to others, so I prettied it up a bit, and thought I'd post it for everyone to see.

Looks like Prime is the only one with all "yes" and one of the lowest amount per gallon.

Did you calculate a price comparison?

I have had very good results with Prime. The only alternative I have really considered is Safe, which is basically powered Prime.

For this list, I calculated dose but not price, because price varies greatly depending on the seller and size of the bottle purchased.

For my personal use, when I first made the list, I did a per dose price comparison for a couple of the best performing dechlorinator's 2L bottle prices. Due to it's small dose amount, Prime came out on top for price as well.

I've heard of Safe, from what I understand it's concentrated powdered Prime for Ponds. I didn't know about it when I made this list several months ago though, so I don't know how it compares, or if it's a viable solution for tank use as opposed to ponds.

Weco Dechlor is 1 drop per gallon for chlorine, 2 drops for chloramine. It's the least expensive dechlor I have found. I use Prime most of the time but keep the dechlor as a backup or for use on a new tank.
