Is it normal to have an algae bloom during cycling? I set up my tank about 3-4 weeks ago. I have currently 25lbs of live rock in the tank. Its 29G. I noticed like a brown/rust colored algae on the heater, powerhead, filter intake, sand bed, etc. Is that good or bad? Not sure.

Sounds like diatoms, they usually appear toward the end of the cycle, they'll eventually go away on their own usually.

Very common to have algae at this point and I agree it sounds like diatoms which are also very common. Let it cycle, do a good size water change when nitrates are all that remain, get a decent CUC and use carbon and GFO (Rowaphos, etc) and go from there.

Not yet, been my experience that still might be a little ammonia around and trites and trates are still high... I'd test it in about a week.
