Heater issue

Pics? Other then algae I've never got any type of build up on my freshwater heaters. Perhaps your tap water has high calcium or something thats building up on it.
Before I saw the pic, I would have said hard water build up too. I'm not sure what that is. Is it on the inside or outside of the heater?
Once a month or whenever you service your filter, unplug the heater, remove and wipe/clean with a power towel or whatever.
Its on the outside, and when touching with your hand its rough. Should I take it out and soak it in something? This is the only heater its happening to out of 3 tanks. I had it happen before to another heater and the burnt brown stuff starting building up on it, so I just replaced that heater.
They do sell stuff to decalcify aquarium items but after seeing it, not so sure thats what it is. It only happens in one aquarium and not any of the others? Do you do anything different with that particular tank? Any decor that touches the heater?
